Between reporting a change of residence (Ohlasovňa) within 5 working days, the Financial Administration (Finančná správa) tax, health insurance (poisťovňa) updates, and Dopravný inšpektorát vehicle services, Slovak households face constant administrative complexity. Missing deadlines can mean penalties or lost benefits.

Your rodné číslo (birth number) is your unique national ID, used for tax, health insurance, banking, and all government services. Foreigners receive one upon registration. Report your change of residence (Ohlasovňa) within 5 working days of moving — it's the basis for health insurance and tax updates.
The annual income tax return (daňové priznanie) is due by March 31 for most taxpayers. E-filing via Slovensko.sk is standard. Employees may be exempt if they have only employment income under the non-taxable part threshold — check each year.
Sociálna poisťovňa pays the prídavok na dieťa — a monthly child allowance per child under 18 (or 25 if studying, disabled). Amounts vary by family income. Apply via Deti.sk or Sociálna poisťovňa, report income changes annually and family changes promptly.
Apply at the Police Headquarters (Policajný zbor) or a passport office. Adult passport valid 10 years (5 years for minors), processing 4 weeks standard, 2-3 days urgent. The Občiansky preukaz (national ID card) is separate, valid 10 years, renewed at the same or a municipal office.
The STK (stanica technickej kontroly) is the mandatory vehicle inspection — new cars first at 4 years, then every 2 years, then annually for older cars. Without it, you cannot renew PZP insurance or registration. Book early at an approved STK station.
