Your PESEL (Powszechny Elektroniczny System Ewidencji Ludności) is your national identification number, issued by the Urząd. It's essential for tax (PIT), NFZ health insurance, banking, employment, and all government services. Register within 30 days of moving to get/update it.
The annual PIT income tax return is due by April 30. E-filing via the e-Deklaracje or Twój e-PIT portal is standard. Most employees receive a pre-filled return to confirm. Refunds are typically processed within 2-3 months.
The 800+ (Rodzina 800+) program pays PLN 800/month per child under 18, regardless of income. Apply via ZUS, the mObywatel app, or PUE ZUS. Report income changes annually. Payments are made monthly from the 4th of each month.
Apply at the Urząd Wojewódzki (voivodeship office) or consular office abroad. Adult passport valid 10 years, processing ~30 days standard, 7 days urgent. The Dowód Osobisty (ID card) is separate, valid 10 years, renewed at your local Urząd.
The przegląd (badanie techniczne) is the mandatory vehicle inspection. New cars first tested at 3-4 years, then every 2 years (or annually for older/commercial vehicles). Without it, you cannot renew OC insurance or registration. Book early at an approved stacja kontroli pojazdów.
