Between Dimos (municipality) declarations, AADE tax, EFKA social insurance, transport authority vehicle services, and the AMKA-based healthcare system, Greek households face constant administrative complexity. Missing deadlines can mean penalties or lost benefits.

Your AMKA (Αριθμός Μητρώου Κοινωνικής Ασφάλισης) is your social security number, essential for healthcare, employment, EFKA contributions, and benefits. Foreigners receive one upon registration. Keep it secure — it's linked to your AFM (tax number).
The annual tax return (φορολογική δήλωση) is typically due by end-June/July via the myAADE portal. Most taxpayers must file electronically. The AFM (tax number) is needed for all financial transactions in Greece.
OPEKA pays the child benefit (επίδομα παιδιού) — amounts vary by family income and number of children. Apply via OPEKA, report income annually. Paid monthly per child under 18 (or in education up to 24). Report family changes promptly.
Apply at the Police (for citizens) or Decentralized Administration. Adult passport valid 10 years (5 years for minors). Processing: 5-7 working days standard, 2-3 days urgent. The ID card (δελτίο ταυτότητας) is separate, valid 15 years.
The KTEO (Κέντρο Τεχνικού Ελέγχου Οχημάτων) is the mandatory vehicle inspection. New cars first tested at 4 years, then every 2 years (or annually for older cars). Without it, you cannot renew insurance or registration. Book early at a KTEO centre.
