The anagrafe is the civil registry at your local Comune. You must register (iscrizione anagrafica) within 20 days of moving. It's essential for healthcare (ASL), schools, voting, and all government services. Your residency also affects tax domicile.
The codice fiscale is your unique tax identification number, issued by the Agenzia delle Entrate. You need it for everything — employment, banking, healthcare, contracts, and INPS. Foreigners receive one upon arrival. Keep it secure.
The Assegno Unico Universale is INPS's universal child allowance, paid monthly per child under 21. Amounts vary by ISEE (family income indicator). Apply via INPS, report income changes annually with the ISEE declaration.
Apply at the Questura (police headquarters) or via the SPID/Passport online portal. Adult passport valid 10 years. Processing: 3-4 weeks standard, 2-3 days urgent. The carta d'identità (ID card) is separate, valid 10 years, renewed at the Comune.
The revisione is the mandatory vehicle inspection. New cars first tested at 4 years, then every 2 years. Without it, you cannot legally drive, renew insurance, or sell the vehicle. Book early at an authorised centre.
