The Carte Vitale is your health insurance card used for all medical appointments and reimbursements via CPAM. Update it annually and after any address or family change. It's linked to your numéro de sécurité sociale.
The annual tax declaration is typically due in May/June (online filing, with deadlines varying by department). Even if you owe no tax, you may need to declare income. The avis d'imposition (tax notice) arrives in late summer.
CAF pays family allocations, child benefits, and housing assistance (APL). Eligibility depends on income and family composition. Report income changes within the annual declaration and any family changes (birth, separation) promptly.
Apply online via ANTS or at the Mairie (Town Hall). Adult passport valid 10 years, costs ~€86. Processing: 2-3 weeks standard, 2-3 days urgent (extra fee). The national ID card (carte d'identité) is separate, valid 10 years, and free.
The contrôle technique is a mandatory vehicle inspection. First test at 4 years, then every 2 years. Without it, you cannot renew your carte grise and risk fines. Book early at an approved centre (centre de contrôle technique).
